Search Engine Optimization is all about making your website more visible to people who are using search engines to look for your product, brand, or services. Internal linking is one of the few methods we can use to tell Google (and visitors) that a particular page of content is important. So how should you go about linking internally to other pages of your website?2 Seed keywords are the foundation of your keyword research. They define your niche and help you identify your competitors. For those who can’t find any good place to apply a keyword or phrase, using them in the links built to other websites will help them to stand out for readers.

Engage with influencers

Linking to highly popular or trusted websites, news pages, blogs and message boards is an excellent way to add credibility to your own website. If you’re pulling proof for the claims you make from sources which a majority of other people already trust, it can only help you to make more conversions from your website visitors and ultimately lead to an increase in sales. It isn't just about the number of links that are going to a domain, but about the quality of those links. Unfortunately, this isn't something you can do quickly overnight. Businesses should always remember that they can’t fool search engines. Google prefers organic links built by real people. Bombarding sites with the same anchor text won’t help you in any way. Too many hyperlinks can also be problematic, they should always be slightly different to avoid Google thinking your site is spam. The majority of web traffic is driven by the major search engines like Google, Yahoo! or Bing. Although social media and other types of traffic can route users to your website, the bulk of website traffic is driven by search engines. This statement is true regardless of your website’s purpose.

Removing unnecessary plugins

For those of you wondering, “index” is another name for the database used by a search engine. So “to index” a page is to have it added to that database. In other words, Google has discovered your page. Choose keyword frequency over keyword density. Hopefully your website is laid out in a way that allows users to easily find the content or pages that you want to promote. The header text, or H1 text, is usually the title of an article or some larger bold text at the top of your page. Google and the smaller search engines can see this and they put extra importance on the words in the H1 text. Make sure your target keyword or phrase is there.

Pair complementary businesses together to provide more value for readers

While your content marketing should be crafted carefully to meet SEO requirements, such as by including keywords, the success and popularity of your actual content will be the real force behind the rise of your web page in the search rankings. Headings are a big deal for SEO. They tell Google exactly what’s on each page. If you don’t use them correctly, your page isn’t going to rank well. As you spend time identifying your target audience and conducting keyword research, you’ll begin to uncover long tail keywords that will help you identify the best options for naming and describing your product or service. We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "Large images slow down your site, so you need to make image file sizes as small as possible."

Most sites do not need to worry about Penguin unless they have done some sketchy link building in the past

As businesses succeed, new avenues of revenue open up and therefore new areas of the website need to be created and optimised. Remember, it takes 20 years to build a reputation and only five minutes to ruin it. The absence of a hard and fast definition of content allows for cross-genre experiments. Infographics, explainer videos, vlogs are products of such experiments. Visual images entertain users whereas written content provide them with new information. Infographics, which is the cross between the two, do both. The same applies to explainer videos. Backlinks are the so called “incoming links” that are created when another website links to your website, and sends new users and relevant traffic your way.
