There has been much talking about links being a ranking factor. Many SEOs have only focused on content and On-Page SEO and neglected links saying: "We already know everything about links". But do they know everything about links? Ranking potential is an assessment of where you can realistically hope to get your rankings to; if the top 5 websites have a DA of 90+ and your website is at 20, it is not realistic to think that you will be able to grab one of the top 5 spots in no time. Again this is not always the case, but tends to generally be a safe standard of procedure. While building backlinks, developing your social media presence, and other off-site practices are great for boosting your site’s rankings, on-page optimization is still incredibly important. Think long term rather than short term. Short term will get you nowhere with SEO.

Search engines often reward you for updating old content. But remember, you only get a reward for actually making the content more relevant! Never ever sacrifice the quality of your copy for the sake of the search engines

Create social media accounts with the major sites and update them regularly. Avoid being spammy by not just posting ads: post pictures of customers, events that you attend relating to your business, and other content that your fans might enjoy. Off page SEO or search engine optimisation is doing things off site to improve your sites search engine rankings. Linking that does not fulfill the reader's needs should be left and you should only focus on providing the readers with relevant and related data.
